Telecom projects driven by Microsoft SharePoint Technology using Ometa Solutions
VolkerWessels Telecom is one of the many divisions of the VolkerWessels Group. With a specialisation in the Telecom Networking, VolkerWessels Telecom runs on yearly basis several thousands of projects. These projects can become only successful
with a daily strong collaboration between Network providers, various
involved construction companies and possible involved third parties
(customers, government,...).
The information flow within one
project is massive, for each project the necessary plans, permits,
underground plans, drawings, financial statuses, material consumption,
project resource consumption and many more. The project management and information types depend mainly on the type of project. A
tertiary network project which involves end customer network
connections, are huge in volume and are short in duration. While primary
network services and secondary network services are more complex
projects with many document flow as often various government
certificates and permits are necessary.
To manage all these projects in a successful manner VW’s Tele
com selected Microsoft SharePoint as
their collaboration platform. Bringing people together around
information and business processes is one of the strong advantages of
SharePoint.
To connect all these SharePoint
sites with the various backoffice applications, VolkerWessels selected
Ometa. Ometa has strong technology and many years of experience in
connecting SharePoint sites with various backoffice systems.
The several thousands of projects
are all different SharePoint Site Collections with different users,
different connectivity requirements and different systems. Ometa
delivers an out of the box solution that makes it possible to generate
SharePoint Site Collections and depending on the business context
discloses the necessary information from various backoffices to the
proper project sites.
Reinier Hulsman : “ We needed a
platform that could support complex ERP transactions in combination with
approval workflows. The number of projects, involved parties and
transactions created a need for an integration platform that is built
for large enterprises” .
The
Ometa multi context transaction manager supports multi cpu processing
allowing to manage the transactions a-synchronic from the Portal
requests. This guarantees scalable performance for each of our projects.
The Ometa framework allows managing the integration without having the
necessary knowledge about SharePoint. Maintenance and development costs
are kept to an absolute minimum.
At any
given time we can trace the incoming transactions, their status and
manage the permissions. SharePoint becomes for VolkerWessels a
user-friendly Portal interface layer without bringing in new complexity
in the backoffice system.
