Ometa’s Integrator Solution enables Evonik Degussa Antwerp NV to build a Central Security Portal
 
For Evonik Degussa Antwerp NV, one of the Evonik Industries divisions, safety is crucial. It is one of the most important elements in the day to day activity of a chemical company.
 
In case of an emergency many factors determine the severity of the situation: the weather, the products involved, the current volumes at the plant, etc.

Evonik Degussa Antwerp NV decided to build a Central Security Portal. In this portal we wanted to combine the information from our Oracle, SAP and DB2 system with the very large set of related safety and emergency instructions. The availability of the instructions and the back office data in one portal enables decision taking within a minimum of time.
 
Therefore, Evonik Degussa Antwerp NV started building a web based Portal using Microsoft SharePoint. Document Management is one of the basic functions of MS SharePoint, but in order to read information from the various back office systems, Evonik started a technology selection of current tools on the market. Finally Evonik Degussa Antwerp NV selected the Ometa integration platform.
 
Ometa has connectivity tools to make bi-directional integrations between Microsoft SharePoint and back office systems such as SAP, Oracle and DB2. Evonik Degussa Antwerp NV decided to setup a Proof of Concept to validate the Ometa Integration Framework.
 
Ometa only needed 4 days to setup and test the environment and to train the internal Evonik staff. The involved Evonik engineers are experts in Oracle, SAP and DB2, but had no .NET or SharePoint knowledge. After the 4 days session the Evonik applications engineers are able to push any back office data to SharePoint and setup bidirectional integration.
